Listed below are of some of the committees that Guild members volunteer their time on. Contact the members listed below if you need assistance with issues that fall under the scope of their committee duties.

If you are interested in serving on, or need more information about a particular committee, please contact the Guild office at 419.241.3419. Special committees may be formed at various times during the year and information will be posted on union bulletin boards requesting volunteers.  

 
SAFETY COMMITTEE
“Everyone's Safety Is Our Concern.”

The Blade’s Labor/Management Safety Committee meets regularly with the Company. This committee is made up of union members representing the different departments and bargaining units of The Blade. Their goal is to make sure safety issues are brought to the Company's
attention and resolved promptly. Please contact any member with your issues or concerns.

GRIEVANCES
Step 1 grievance meetings with you and your supervisor are an attempt to resolve issues. Please address issues or concerns within the 14 day time limit and follow the procedure set by the current contract. See the Guild contract for current grievance procedures.
PENSION JOINT BOARD OF TRUSTEES
Guild members are eligible to serve as a Union representative on the joint board of trustees for the Toledo Newspaper Unions-Blade Pension Plan. This board oversees both the pension and 401K plans. Questions concerning the administration/investment of these plans should be directed to committee members.

NEGOTIATIONS COMMITTEE
Negotiation committee members are selected from various departments to give a broad range of input on issues concerning the Guild during a contract negotiation. This is an important function of the Guild and members are encouraged to discuss their interest in being a part of the committee with the Guild officers.
HUMAN RIGHTS COMMITTEE
The Toledo Newspaper Guild's human rights program works toward fairness and equity for all in the workplace. The goals of The Newspaper Guild's human rights program include ensuring the rights of members; promoting diversity in the industry and in our union; creating an environment that fosters equal opportunity and permits every member to reach full potential, and eliminating harassment and hostile work environments.

The Toledo Newspaper Guild has continuing associations with the Northwest Ohio Black Media Association, which is the local chapter of the National Association of Black Journalists, and the National Lesbian and Gay Journalists Association.
SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEE
The Scholarship Committee is said to be one of the most rewarding committees to serve on. Members meets annually to review the local scholarship applications and decide on the 5 recipients of the $500 scholarships awarded each July.
